Background

Tambuan Dani Indigenous People School is in Maasim, Sarangani Province. Most classes in the school are held in the two makeshift classrooms made out of coco lumber and bamboo, one of them being a former residential house. Aside from the lack of quality classrooms, Tambuan Dani is also lacking a source for clean water and electricity. There is also no designated room for teachers to stay in. Instead, they share the students’ classrooms.

All of the students in Tambuan Dani hail from the T’boli tribe, and the surrounding community is primarily involved in coconut farming. 178 students are enrolled for the upcoming academic year. In addition to the makeshift classrooms, HOPE has built two more, made possible by VitaCoco.

Impact Stories

The Tambuan Dani community is more than grateful for the help HOPE has given. Not only did the organization provide a well-lit and well-ventilated space that is also conducive to learning, but the classrooms double as areas in which other community events are held. In the past, these were a COVID-19 Orientation, a Recognition event, and a Parent’s Mentoring event.

This is not Tambuan Dani’s first collaboration with HOPE; they are also part of the organization’s Agricultural Program, where some members of the community were handpicked by HOPE to become demo farmers.
