Background

Almost all students of Ama-talo Elementary School in Pozorrubio I, Pangasinan come from farming families. The school teaches students from the Kindergarten level up to the sixth grade. Grade 3 and 5 students hold their classes in the school’s covered courts, the two grades separated only by a chalkboard. They would often move around the courts to avoid natural inconveniences like scorching sunlight or bothersome rainfall. On the other hand, Grade 6 students have their clases in the dining area of the school canteen, which only meets one third of the standard size mandated by the Department of Education.

Impact Stories

Three classrooms were inaugurated in February 2020 through HOPE’s program. The community is very thankful to HOPE, “It is very difficult to ask for a new classroom but HOPE did it for us.”

One teacher shares that the donated classrooms are well-ventilated, well-lit, and well-prepared. “It was already equipped with different instructional materials suitable for learning.” Some members of the Ama-talo community would go as far as to say that the new spaces are not just suitable for teaching and learning, but like a home away from home.
