Background

Standing on 2.5 hectares of land next to a wide irrigation system, the Lagao National High School Extension is the first agriculture-fishery specialized school in General Santos City of Sarangani province. However, the separation of the two areas of terrain prompted the need for a bridge to help students cross over to the school, which former students and the local community helped build.

More challenges await the school’s community as they rest in a remote area of their barangay, wherein building materials are scarce. Previously built classrooms were left to use light, flimsy materials that provided little to no guarantee of safety, thus pulling the attention of students from being able to focus on learning.

Impact Stories

With the transition back to on-site classes, these classrooms are a new home where young Filipino learners can grow and develop. These safe and secure spaces stand as tools to aid in honing their minds and skills—a step closer in achieving their goals and dreams for the future.

Iris Visaya, the school’s principal, pushes onward in building a better tomorrow by holding onto the hope she has for her students. She remains grateful for the HOPE classrooms that provide both students and their parents with peace of mind and confidence that the next generation can thrive in safe spaces conducive to learning and happiness.
